Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\windows\system32\config\system

That is the message I get when I boot up. I have had this problem on another computer and it was eventually resolved by completely reinstalling windows and wiping everything off.

I would prefer if that didn't happen to this machine! The problem is that the computer company didn't send me an emergency boot disk or windows setup disk. I can contact the company and requests these disks but I was just curious to see if there was anything I can do to rectify the situation without the needs of these disks.

Thanks!

Try booting your machine from the cd...
Then press R (for repair) and when you enter DOS, get into c:\windows\repair. copy the file system to folder c:\windows\system32\config . That should get your computer going again. I've had the same problem a couple of times, and actually found this solution by an accident :) but hey, it works :)
