System32 Folder, Missing

OS: WINXP PRO SERVICE PACK 2
CPU/Ram: AMD ATHLON 1.3/640MB RAM

My folder C:\WINDOWS\system is there in windows directory but system32 isn't...
i went to folder option and choose the enable to see the system files and folders and it is still not there...
and when i go to run and type in regedit i get the dos box and at the top it says C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com but its just a black boxs...
and i did a search to find System32 and it is there but i don't see it....
Can anybody help??

I seriously doubt it. If the system32 folder were missing, you will have no windows.

i did say,and i did a search to find System32 and it is there..
so i know its there...but i don't see it in the windows directory but it is in there, and i have it set so i can see all system files...
i am doing a virus scan now...
and i did a spyscan already and nothing there....

timalan, It's possible that you may have accidently dragged the System32 folder into possibly the System folder. Open the folders close(both above & below including the System folder) using Windows Explorer and you may find the System32 folder. If you find it just drag & drop it where it's supposed to be.

In windows explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and untick "Hide operating system files".

Now go to your System32 folder, and delete the following:

cmd.com
regedit.com
tasklist.com
taskkill.com

Also get rid of these programs from Add/Remove programs:

180 Search assistant
Power Scan (assuming no ones scanner prog has this name)
Internet Optimizer
ISTsvc

I had exactly the same problem and i did the DJVege routine and i can get to my registry now. The the 4 .com items to delete have the .com missing but they are very faint to see. Thanks all
