Hi,
I just installed Windows Updates for my graphics card and sound card and now the system won't load into Windows XP and the screen just stays black with the mouse cursor showing only.
I did a system restore in safe mode and now the computer won't start up into safe mode or anything else as the screen just stays black for a long time.
Before the system starts up, i get a load of errors for the system files. it says something like 'multi%partition ....' with the filename after it. It is formatted in NTFS do you think i should go back to FAT32? Could that be the problem?
How can I back my data up and is there something that I can do to prevent any errors like this coming up again..
I also have a USB mass storage device which i can back data to if i can..

No, dont go back to FAT32, for starters. You might try booting from the XP CD and resintallign it again. If you don't remove the partition or format again, then you'll be ok, it will just re-write itself. I've done this a few times, so I know it works. Just be careful not to kill partition, or format.
