My CPU spikes about every five seconds. System, even when I'm not doing anything, regularly spikes to using 20-30 percent of the CPU. Any idea why?

What utility are you running in the background that updates every five seconds?

None that I know of. "System" just eats up CPU resources. I apologize in advance if I'm not really answering your question; I'm not really a techie.
