I'm having a problem with several programs and my wireless netork after using XP's System Restore. The network functionality of several programs seems to be lost and even reinstalling them dosen't help. For some reason my wireless network prevents any third party software working. I am still, with some difficulty, able to transfer files over the network although access to the internet via client computers is proving more difficult. Has anyone also done a Sytem Restore with AOL installed? It dosen't restore AOL's settings and requires you to reinstall AOL. One final point, attempting to reinstall the drivers for the wireless network has given me this error message: -
"IKernel.exe - Application Eror" - The instruction at "0x771c741a" referenced memory at "0x00163838". The memory could not be "read". Click ok to terminate the program. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Have used XP's restore with no problems -- have both a network and AOL, so they would not seem to impose a generic problem. The kernal error results from a memory conflict between two applications (or sometimes a memory problem, itself). As a first step to resolving the problem, if it were me, I'd uninstall and reinstall network components on the affected PC.

thanks for the reply rac. Which version of AOL are you using? Mine is v7.00 and it reports, after system restore, that the main IDX file is damaged and that AOL requires to be reinstalled. Have now carried out restore in Safe Mode with exactly the same result, i.e. loss of network functionality and AOL problem described above.

I've got AOL 7.0 (tried 8.0 and had a major problem with XP itself that may or may not have been AOL's fault, but after having to reinstall XP, I quickly went back to 7.0!)

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled AOL?

Don't know if this helps, but I have found this input from the computing.net site (check this link: http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/54263.html).

I have not tried it yet, but I do indeed have SP1 installed, and have gotten the same error message.
