System Restore

Specs: Windows XP
I did a system restore of my PC. When it is all done and XP loads up for "first use", so that I can set up personal preferences, such as time zones etc, the screen goes 95% white and I cannot continue. I have tried the restore again, but still get stuck at this point. Does anyone know how I can sort this out? I do not have an XP cd, just my recovery disks, which I used for the restore. Can I get XP to bypass this set-up so that it won't get stuck at the start of it? I have tried all types of key combinations of the screen, but only F1 (Help) works, but it has no functionality.

What exactly did you do and why? System Restore is a System Tool and requires no media. Did you run a Windows Repair?

I meant, system recovery. Software that comes with a laptop, instead of giving you a copy of XP, so that you may restore the computer to factory settings.
