I want to do a system restore but I am not able to pick a date to restore my computer back to. "Todays" date is in bold for restoring. There are no other dates in bold. I am not able to pick any other date or month for that matter.

Your system restore is corrupted. Your best bet is to turn off restore and then turn it back on. That will clean it out and get it working properly.
As far as the restore points you had, they are non-existant so you will have to do what I mentioned

Before you turn off system restore I suggest you look back further. If no changes have been made to your system then there may not be any restore points created. If that is the case then a restore point from last month may be usable.
Look at the link below for a better understanding of system restore.

Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XPRunning that will remove all but the latest Restore Point.

For restore, I strongly recommend a program called "Erunt".
It creates a daily backup for up to 30 days in a folder in the root of "C" called ERDNT. No baggage comes with the program. No help today, but in the future.......
I've used it and it works great, and no trojan, virus ect. shuts it down. Google for it.

I want to thank everyone for their quick response and suggestions.
The person that mentioned the "disk clean up tool" really hit the mark. Yes I have been doing that and I just checked my restore points and I actually have some from after I did the clean up.
Thank you Very Much!!
