i need to do a system restore farther back than a week ago. for some reason, the calendar is on december, and when i click on the back arrow to change months, it will not change.
is there any way to force it to go back to november?
my primary problem is that for some reason my media player 10 is trying to change to 11 which i don't want. if i can't fix system restore, is there a way to make the media player stay at ten and get rid of the stupid box that keeps popping up for 11?

Restoring to an earlier time probably isn't the answer.

There may not be any restore points in November. Although that does seem unlikely. If you leave you computer on 24/7 and haven't made any changes then there may not be any restore points for November.

I am not sure how to get rid of the nag screen although I do have an idea.

Shut off auto updater. Occasonally you can go to the update site and check. I NEVER allow auto updates. First of all you get them as soon as they are released. Occasionally MS will put out a bad update that will screw up something on your computer. Better to let others be the Beta Testers. Second, MS occasionally includes hardware updates. You should NEVER allow MS to update your drivers.

i don't leave the computer on at night. i think you deduce at least part of the problem, but it should have happened. i don't update automatic, but last friday, i did 28 updates, but the media player 11 i didn't install. if i recall, i specifically declined it. could it have snuck in anyway?
i was thinking that if i did a system restore to last friday, the computer would be back just like it was then. is there any way to get rid of the update if it did sneak in?

Open Media Player, click Help, then click About Windows Media Player...look for the version number. What's wrong with WMP11?

i have been quite happy with ten for a couple of years, and i'm very adverse to change of any kind. that, and the fact that 11 takes up twice as much disk space, and i run with only about 500mb of free disk space to begin with
anyway, thank you much for your info. i managed to solve the immediate problem. i discovered that there is a site where you can download old versions of quite a few programs, and windows media player was one. i went into add/remove to get rid of 11, and instead of getting rid of it, it rolled back to ten.
at least that problem is solved, although not being able to go back a month in system restore is still a problem, but not as drastic as it was
again, thank you very much

The reason you have few Restore Points is that you run with only 500mb free space. System restore automatically surrenders Disk space to the Operating System when disk free space is low.

Install a second or Larger HDD before your world comes crashing down around you.

I'm surprised your system runs at all with that little free space. What about the swap file? You definitely need to do some major system cleanup or better yet, as Dumbob suggested, get a bigger HDD & do it ASAP.
