Comment:

When I make a system restore point, it won't save and make itself visible ready for a restore. Upon clicking on "help" I get the message 'malicious script detected'. I have scanned the entire computer with Norton Antivirus (updated) but without result. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

Try disabling system restore (system, in the control panel), re-boot, then re-enable system restore.
