Hello,
I am trying to perform a System Restore because my Windows Explorer (and my documents, my computer...etc) will not open or improve once I have obeyed the error message. I was given good tips by Chuck and JW to do a System Restore, but no matter what date I set my computer to Restore to, it always fails. This is becoming a very puzzling and aggravating problem (both Win Ex and Restore). Does anyone have anymore advice on either situation. I appreciate any responses,
Thanks
Ryan

It may be useful to start the System Restore tool when you are unable to start your Windows XP-based computer normally or in Safe mode.
Starting System Restore Tool from Command Prompt
Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
NOTE: You must log on as the administrator or a user that has administrator rights.
At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER.
Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring your computer to a previous, functional state.

it may simply not be a configuration change that has caused whatever your prolbem is (i must've missed that thread). system restore is not a magic bullet that will wind back the clock. If whatever has caused your problem is not something that system restore sets a flag for, then you're out of luck with respect to using this function to fix your problem.

If you have no joy with System Restore then try 'Last Known Good Configuration..' - from the same F8 Menu
If that solves your problem then disable System Restore - re-boot - Re-enable it and re-boot again - that should put Sys. Rest. right again although you'll have only one Restore Point to start with
