Hi I am trying to clean out some infections that I got and I need to clean out my system restore files (system volume...). I right click on My Computer and click properties but the System Restore tab is not there. All the other tabs are there, but the system restore tab is not. Is there another way to turn off system restore or how can I get that tab back? thanks for your help! Homer

The location on the OS drive for the restore program is: windows\system32\restore. The file name is rstrui.exe. If that is in place you should be able to run restore from there and use that path to add the tab back using the setting> taskbar> advanced feature on the start menu. If that isn't functional then hopefully the link provided by XPUser will work.

Hi Thanks for your ideas....I tried the first link...it says that system restore is started all ready.
I went to the system32\restore folder and tried to run it from there and I get the following message... "System restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on system restore, contact your domain admin".
I am logged in as admin. Any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks!!

Hi I managed to get my problem fixed. Here is what I did...
Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT and press Enter Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ SystemRestore
In the right-pane: Delete the value DisableConfig Delete the value DisableSR
Thanks for everyone's ideas and help!

Well here is the way to set without registry edits. Right click My Computer> manage> services and Apps> services and Apps> Services> System restore.
