Ever since I have installed SP2 my system restore has stopped working. It still creates restore points, but after reboot, it said the restoration fails. I have tried all my restoration points with no success. I also tried disabling system restore, restart, enable restore, and I still have no success. Can anyone please help?
Doug

Go here and read. uninstall SP2 and then follow the suggestions. http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/best_of/xpsp2links.htm
Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

You can also try start-run-type SFC /SCANNOW. You will need the xp cd. Note space between C and /.

IMO System Restor is a complete waste of system resource and space..
Everytime I have tried to restore someones computer it always fails...
Since a long time ago I have disabled it...
But that just my 2 cents worth

What specific model of Dell are you using? I know, while working on a HP computer, there was a specific update that needed to be installed before upgrading to Service Pack 2. Certain Dell models may require an update as well.

I tried SFC /SCANNOW and it is still not working right. This is a Dell insperon 5100. I DO have all the window updates installed. Any other suggestions?

Are you receiving an error message of some sort that tells you that the system restore did not work?
AMD Sempron 2400+ overclocked to 2800+
1024MB DDR PC3200
120GB 8MB Cache HD
80GB 8MB Cache HD
nVidia Geforce 440 64MB
Antec 350W Smart Power

Yes, I get the screen that comes up after a system restore. Rather than saying your system has been sucessfully restored, it just says it could not restore sucessfully. There are no error numbers, warnings, etc- it just looks like the normal screen after a restore.

Well, thinking outside the box here, have you scanned your system for any viruses? Some can render restore points useless as they are designed to do exactly that.
Chances are if your not having much success with the restore points, they're all infected and you'll need to remove them, scan your system, get rid of all instances of viruses including MBR problems before you'll be able to create new ones.
This happened to me by way of a virus that was less than 48 hours old and I got nailed. I try to keep my virus definitions up-to-date but even the most diligent people can get slammed.
Where's the any key?
