hi,
i am having a strange problem. whenever i go for system restore after rebooting message says that system could not be restored. i use norton antivirus 2008 , zone alarm pro, win xp sp2. i am noticing it for quite a few days. but ignored it because during those times i did not need system restore. but now i am facing a new problem that i can not use arrow keys & alphabetical, numerical keys during playing doom 3. but escape button , function buttons & windows button are working well. keyboard is all right as it is doing it's job in other programs. it is a ps2 keyboard. i changed the keyboard with another ps2 keyboard, i reinstalled keyboard driver , i reinstalled doom but the problem persisted.
for that above reason i wanted to use system restore. but i could not do it. does norton prevents system restore?
please help. how can i restore my system? is there any solution of weird keyboard problem. i even remapped keys in doom3. during remapping it is recognising the keys11 but during play no effect.
i think if somehow i can resore my system to an earlier time it will be corrected.
waiting for help. please...
regards
sidhu

Try System Restore while you are in Windows Safe-Mode.
Using System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302796

What is System Restore?

many many thanks. system restore in safe mode did the trick as chuk 2 said. norton was the main culprit who prevented system restore even after uninstall. still do not know what happened to my keyboard. but at the end everthing is running fine. i even tried the method published at symantec site. but even after that system could not be restored. still start all programs menu shows norton link. i could not get rid of that. today i bought kaspersky internet security and discarded norton even if i had 155 days subscription remaining. kaspersky refused to get installed as there were some traces of norton. so i had to use 'your uninstaller' to clear the registry.then i could install kaspersky. but that annoying link in start all program menu still shows norton. i could not get rid of that. i removed norton properly from control panel add remove programs but norton was too obstinate to be removed. hope from now onwards system restore will work properly.
thank u all
