Whenever i try to open system restore it comes up with the message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I think this started happening after i installed norton antivirus, i tried reinstalling it, but i get the same error message.

I had similar issues with System Restore in the past and recently when overclocking a machine. Frankly system restore is garbage. Back your data up and do a clean install or perform an in-place upgrade to your current installation or uninstall whatever is causing the problem. System Restore just sucks.

Well System Restore is good only if you bother to use it properly. Remember any changes to your hardware will render previous restore points useless.

So Delete the old ones, and create some new ones and see how they work. If your still having troubles let me know I have a obscure link that may help.

Well if you are still having troubles, try this resource:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm

Look for the sections that deal with fixing or repairing system restore itself.

My guess is something on your PC has messed up a service that is required to start system restore service, or the service itself has become messed up. Maybe due to malware or cleaning of the system.

Good luck,

J.
