You mean when you click on the actual "Disk Defragmenter" option under System Tools, you receive that error?

Are you logged in with an account that's in the Administrator Group?

Yea, as alluded to in #1 you may not have enough space to do either. You need a minimum of 15% free to defrag.

Have you scanned your system for viruses, trojans, malware, etc.?

Look at the link below for help with runnning Defrag. Try running chkdsk.

BTW, you should first analyse the disk before attempting to run defrag. Most likely in your case you will get a message that the drive doesn't need to be defragged.

Yes when I try to use system restore in system tools. It freezes up when I try to make a restore date.
As far as administer I am the only one using my home computer.
On disk defrag It won't analyize either.

Okay
I tried some of the stuff in other posts. It's still the same. I did a spy check and a disk check. Nothing is wrong.

Do you have at least SP1 installed?

Watch the POST screens at start up to verify the hard drive is recognized by BOTH the model and full capacity.

Pleasse help. My computer is getting worse. Now on the system restore question. I check services and status. They both say system restore is working or enabled. When I try to create a restore date it says system cannot create restore date. The calender shows todays date but doesn't move.
All the previously create restore dates have been deleted. Please help before I go nuts. Thanks. Also I can't do a chkdsk. It says volume in use do you want to reschdule.

Try shutting off System restore and then re-enabling it. Boot into Safe Mode and run chkdsk from there.

Have you had to perform a system repair or re-installation recently?

When doing a chkdsk it will always tell you the volume is in use. It also asks whether you want to schedule the chkdsk to be done on the next boot. Answer yes and reboot the computer. Most probably your disk has errors and nothing will run until these errors are rectified.

Let us know what happens.
