Before I use system restore, does it also delete the registry keys, values, etc. that were created after that restorepoint was created?

As I uderstand it restore is just that, whetever you had at the time of your last restore is what you get when you restore.Avagoodweekend......

Well... yeah, that is the general idea
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

I was just wondering because it didn't delete any of my desktop icons that were added after I made a restore point so I thought maybe it just restores settings that were modified, not added.

XP System Restore is not like a backup program. Its function is limited only to the core OS. For more detailed info read THIS.

I'm really tired and I didn't see anything about the registry. So does it restore the entire registry to exactly what it was when the restore point was created?

If you're really tired then I must be tired too. The short answer to your question is NO. As I said earlier Windows XP System restore does not back up and restore the entire registry.

Gosh - now I'm tired too
I remember this poster from his time in the Win9x forum (glad to see you've moved on) - still asking those 'cutting edge' questions I see

:) I just wanted more details and in order to get quicker response I just created a new post.

system restore doesn't restore the entire registry. I recently restored win and all the changes I've made to the registry after setting the restore point were still there. I think it just restores the HKLM part of the registry. if you want to restore the entire registry, use erd commander, don't connect to any windows installations on start and backup %systemroot%\system32\config folder as well as all ntuser.dat files in your documents and settings folder. if something goes wrong, restore ALL the files. then you have the registry EXACTLY as it used to be at the time of backup.
winxp system restore sucks. only manual backup and restore works properly
