When I attempted to do a system repair using the system disk I get a message something like: "indicate which version you want to repair" with a prompt looking for a single letter/digit response. What, for example, is sopposed to be entered there?

I never have done that, but maybe it wants the Drive letter that Windows is on. eg: C

I have no clue what you are talking about. What system disk are you using to do system repair? Don't the system disk have a name?

You should have choices on the screen with numbers preceeding them. If you only have one choice it still will have a prefix number. Just enter that number.
