Good Morning all,
I have a problem with my computer. I got infested with spyware, Trojans, and adware, viruses. I tried to get re-format my computer with the system recovery disks but each time I scan the system after the restore it pulls out over 5000 items. I have dumped my portions, formatted my system and nothing is working. What is going on?? Can anyone help me please?

Boot from the recovery CD. Delete primary partition. Create primary partition. Reformat the partition you just created and install the operating system.

I tried that but it didn't work. I did notice that this is one partition that will not delete. It is 7MB unpartitioned and when you try to it says it is for window and you can not partion it or delete it. Could it be that all this is being stored within this 7MB and returned when i reinstall??

The unpartitioned space remains so that you can retain the ability to convert the drive to a dynamic volume. I wouldn't think a virus or whatever would be hiding there.
You should be able start over fresh. Just like it was brand new.

You might try DELPART, it has worked for when fdisk would not. it's a little awkward to learn but once you figure it works great.

Is it true then when you delete the partition all info on that partition is now gone or is it the formatting of the partition that clears the info? I am still a newbe at this. LOL :)

Also, I was told that they can also hang out in the ram and that could be what my problem could be. Is this true can they hide in the ram and return after reinstall??

Diane,
I believe the 7mb partition is the EISA configuration partition. It's common to be there on most brand name PCs. If you delete it, your system recovery CD will no longer work. The Recovery CD first seek this 7mb partition.

Well I installed XP on a custom built PC with a retail version of XP Home two days ago and I still got the 8mb unpartitioned space. I'm thinking the EISA is a hidden partition. But I could be wrong.

As far as the virus hiding in the RAM. That is possible. But RAM goes stupid when you turn the power off. Just shut down the PC and unplug it and press the power button to drain the mainboard. After about a minute. What ever was there. Should be gone. For good.

You're welcome. I hope Diane didn't delete it. If she did, she will have to contact HP to rebuild it.

No the system would not let me. From the sounds of it thank god. LOL
I will try turning off the system and unplugging it like you said and see what that does.
Thank you so much for your help.
Diane
