OS: Win XP MCE
CPU/Ram: 1.6Ghz (Dual Core) 1Gb Ra
Comment:

My system process seems to randomly jump up to very high cpu usage (80%+) at random times. This lags any programs that are running. I have ran multiple virus/spyware/adware scans to find no infections. After a google search it seems this is a problem quite a few people are experiencing but I was unable to find a solution that worked.
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop
with dual 800mhz processors and 1GB of Ram
Prior to this I have not had a problem with the system, it is about a year old. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-Paul

What you have is a dual core processor that runs at a maximum speed of 1.66GHz. Mobile CPUs are variable speed to conserve energy (battery)reduce heat, and match the output to the need. If your system is lagging you may need to adjust how the laptop is configured. If using off AC power you can override the throttling of the processor. You can also adjust the priority of various processes in the task manager.

I understand what you are saying but I think it is odd that this would make the system process use so much CPU, also when it was new I did not have this problem. I run my laptop on AC power about 90% of the time and this problem still persists, how would I go about overriding the throttling of the processor? And are there any other possible causes?

Thanks for the help

The number you refer to is a percentage of the running speed of the processor. The processor may be throttled down to 400/500MHz. The actual use isn't that much. Can't help you with the throttling settings. Your manual should address this issue.

well is it constant?
or just when you open an application.
but can you tell us how many thing are running in the process?
what kind of antivirus are you running?
Norton and McAfee are system resource hog.
but you can also check to see how many services their are running.
go to google for blackviper.com
till we know what you are running then we can possibly help you.

Have a Great Day ;-D
