Beginning last week I noticed a performance drop overall on my PC. Folders are taking quite awhile to open, and also my mouse locks up for 1/2 a second every 30 seconds. I run an 80GB 7200 RPM 8mb Cache WD drive, the whole system is approx. a year old. It originated with me having around 12 GB of space remaining.

A few steps that I have taken are, removing some unused programs to free space, as well as turning off System Restore (which freed up an additional 9 GB). Niether of these corrected the issue.

Pest Patrol, and Spybot 1.3 found nothing.

I'm looking for any tips or pointers.
Thank you.

start ... run ... MSCONFIG

check for any unwanted programs in the startup.

you may as well tweak your services, there are plenty of guides available ...

and besides pest patrol and spybot, did you run an up2date virus scan?

and last but not least ... sometimes a drive defragmentation works miracles :-)
