Comment:

I have an XP system that hosts two printers. I have 3 other systems on the same wireless network that map to these printers. One of the systems intermittently loses connection to the two printers. When I try to view the properties window for either of the two printers I get a message saying "The print spooler service is not running". I can still print from the other systems.

The print spooler service IS running and the registry entries for the spooler are correct. Why do these two networked printers become unavailable and Ii get the print spooler message?

Thanks in advance

Have you installed the latest drivers on the system that loses connection to the printers?

I'm assuming that they're correct. The system is running auto update from MS and occasionally the printers show up and work just fine. I eliminated a couple of network shares and they were available. Later my wife went to print something and they weren't there. Weird.

Check the manufacturer's support website of the printer and see if you have the latest drivers installed on that system. Those drivers really have nothing to do with MS updates.

OK, I reloaded the driver for the HP ColorLaser 1500 and now I can check the properties of the printer and also print to it. I can also now check the properties of the HP 2570 AllInOne printer and print to it also. Why did the other printer show up if it was a driver problem with the 1500?

OK, it's doing it again. Neither of the printers are available yet if I go to another system in the house I can print just fine. Maybe I should reload the driver again??? What's going on here?

I just reloaded the driver with the HP 1500L update (version 3.0) and still no printers. I'm still asking, what is going on here?
