after running scandisk and logging into my account it says "your system has no paging file or paring file is too small" so i go and change the values and reboot like it says to and i get the same thing, a bad thing is that my hard drive space gets smaller after i reboot

Hi
What page file specs have you set ?
Which drive or partition have you got the page file on ?
Page file size for you config should be in the following range.
Min page file size 768 = 512 x 1.5
Max page file size 1536 = 512 x 3Sometimes the max at 2.5 milutiplier can work quiet wel also 1280.
The 3rd option, if you dont have many second party programs starting with XP you can try turning the page file off, and force XP to load directly into ram and run from there.
HOpe that is of some help to you/

Check that you didnt deny/take away the everyone group from the root. If you did, make sure the "System" group has full permissions.

i found a microsoft website that describes this problem but when i did the suggested fix the problem only got worse. it told me to download something called an application accelerator. after that my computer won't boot so i had to go in as safemode and uninstall the application accelerator so now im back to square one with the same problem. before this problem i had 51GB free now i have about 44BG free because every time i boot the computer hard drive space gets a bit smaller and i think it is because windows is creating a page file every time the computer boots and i have no clue where the page files r located
the website is http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316528
i have 512 ram set to 768 and 1280 in the virtual memory tab

Hi
The application accelerator is a intell tool that needs to be loaded with the intell's ICH4 chip controller.
That tool should be on your mother board support disk, and should have been loaded straight after you installed the chipset drivers for your mother board.
I will drop you a line a bit later as to your prob. I think we may be able to sort this one out.

hi, perhaps you can help me as well. I moved my partition of a windows advanced server on a multi boot computer (i have linux, etc on it as well). I am getting teh no paging file/paging file too small error. When i try to log in (administrator), it just logs me back out. I tried to go into safe mode and the same thing happens. I need to give Administrators and System rights to the Pagefile.sys on the NTFS base directory for this o/s. The rights must have gotten messed up when i moved the O/S partition. It does attempt to boot up, so the mbr is ok. Any suggestions on how i can get into the OS to reassign the rights to he Pagefile.sys file?
I realize that i am on the xp forum but since the topic is closely related perhaps someone can assist?Thx

This solution may relate more to response #5 than the original message. My problem was exactly as described in response #5. It was resolved using the following Microsoft articles (primarily the second link):
Unable to Log on if the Boot Partition Drive Letter Has Changed
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;249321HOW TO: Change the System/Boot Drive Letter in Windows

i only have one hard drive and im only running XP Pro, i just got norton AV pro 2004 and there r no viruses. im pretty sure im just missing a pagefile cuz error checking deleated it (i had it on autofix) is there a simple way to get it back? its not fragmented or ne thing and cuz my hard drive space was going down way to fast i decided to turn the page file off so now im running without a page file but with not problem except alot of used space that isn't supposed to be used in my hard drive, i still want to fix the pagefile problem tho

some replies at other forums say that it may be because admin does not have permission over paging file or something. i still think it is because i have no paging file. ne suggestions?

You’re all wrong I had 2 computers doing the same thing, the similarity between the two when, system manipulation software, restore software, accelerator software, and mem manager software, XP hate these progies because the mess up VM and System Restore also run Ad-Aware keep your system clean from spies.
