Is it a complete lockup that requires manual power-off and restart or is it an intermittant thing?
In ControlPanel> Admin Tools> EventViewer
Is there any indication of any software that is associated with the lockups?

What kind of graphics card do you have? Maybe that is overheating. Does your VGA card have a fan on it? If so is it working?
If not maybe you can get an extra casefan and mount it to blow across the card.

If there's nothing in eventviewer to indicate a software problem, then I still lean towards an overheating issue or perhaps a failing powersupply. If you have access to another psu I'd swap it and see if that makes a difference. If it is the psu then it will be important to replace it before a complete burnout as they often put a fatal surge through motherboard/CPU/RAM etc when they blow. The PSU also has a fan in it. It may be failing/blocked up with accumulated dust/crud.
I've replaced a psu fan before but do not recommend that unless you know what you're doing as opening a PSU is not the safest thing to do. The fans in them are usually hard wired in so replacing them requires cutting/soldering the wires.

Did you go into control panel/admin tools/ event viewer and see what errors you are getting when your system freezes up?
