OS: WIN Xp Prp SP1
CPU/Ram: P4 2.4 533MHZ / 512 PC 27
Comment:

I put together a brand new PC:

Pentium 4 2.4 533 MHZ FSB
512 megs PC 2700
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro/GeForce Ti 200
ANTEC 400W PSU
MSI 645DX MB SiS Chipset
60 Gig ATA 100 Maxtor
AMIBIOS ver. 3.1

OK, I have updated my PC to service pack 1, I have updated the SiS agp drivers, and I also used 2 different video cards (Radeon 9700 Pro, GeFroce Ti 200) to test this.
I downloaded the latest Radeon drivers and NVIDIA drivers, but my pc still reboots when graphics are being loaded before gameplay. The system is very stable otherwise. The pc is not being overclocked at all and the BOIS is run at fail-safe mode.
Quake 3 crashes everytime it loads, Battlefield 1942 crashes during map loading and so on. I took everything out of my pc except the vid card, and it still occurs.
Anybody have any ideas, please post or email me. Thanks a lot. Oh yea, one more thing ...whne windows is loading, it seems to delay after choosing what OS you want to run. Any ideas ?

the games might not be functioning properly due to incompatability with xp. try right clicking on them, and changing the compatability to a different OS.

I find if an older game or program cannot be installed by
way of the CD then use "Program Compatibility Wizard" to install it.

If the game is installed, but will not start by way of
the CD, then when inserting the CD hold down the left
Shift key for approx. 15 sec. to keep AutoRun from taking over.
Now click the game in the "All Programs" list. Should start.
---------------
From a Microsoft web page:

If an older application gives you trouble when running
Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
1. Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the
executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you?re finished changing the
settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the
program is still not running smoothly: a program that's
unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.

i concur, i have found that if the game requires windows 95/98 or higher the 'Compatibility Mode'or 'Run As' works fine, however if the games is old and shows 3.1/95 or only 95 then it uses some dos based application that xp can not or will not duplicate. so they do not run
good luck

I get the same problem too only my system crashes during game play...I have a GeForce 4 ti 4600 no overclocking on the card or the system and latest bios installed and drivers.

The system runs fine with windows xp...it can be on for hours with heavy program usage and not crash but when it comes to a game like flight simulator 2002, during game play the game crashes and i'm presented with a problem diaglog box to report it...it happens all the time and playing games insn't fun anymore...anyone have any clue why this stuff happens...it wasn't happening when I dind't have the service pack installed but now that it is... the games are crashing all the time...

Also I'm afraid to re-install xp because they say you can only activate it once...problem is i didn't choose to archive the files when i was prompted i thought the service pack would not cause these problems but now i'm seeing problems!

any advice would be usefull!

I have been having this same problem with a lot of my games, Unreal Tournament 2003, Everquest, AvP2, Warcraft III, Earth & Beyond Beta, Americas Army, and Battlefield 1942. The only game I can really play anymore without getting booted is Battlefield 1942. I have a Athlon XP 1700+, Abit KT7A Raid motherboard, 1.5 GB Corsair PC150 SDRAM, Geforce 2 MX400 or Geforce 4 TI 4400, SoundBlaster Live! Value, and a Linkysys LNE-100TX 10/100 network card. I have tried quite a few things to fix the problem.

At first, I was convinced that there was an IRQ problem. First, I tried updating my bios and video cards. I also patched all of my games. So, I changed the PnP O/S option in my bios to NO. Next, I reinstalled windows and changed my computer type from ACPI(Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) to Standard PC. I thought this because IRQs 10 & 11 were being shared by several devices. Since the bios was setting the IRQs instead of Windows, I manually set all of the IRQs in the bios. This still didn't work. All of my games were still booting to the desktop. So, I removed the network card and Sound Card. I also disabled my onboard USB controller, parallel port, and onboard serial controllers in the Bios. If I try using my old Geforce 2 MX400 card that used to work fine or my new Geforce 4 Ti 4400, I get the same results. I get booted to the desktop after my game loads or after I'm in for a few seconds. I noticed that in UT2003, the game said that there was a general protection fault.

I upgraded my power supply to 400 watts. But, this didn't seem to change anything. The only things that I haven't tried yet are altering any of my bios settings or changing out my memory. My roommate has an almost identical system and his games run fine. If anyone else has had a problem like this or has found a solution, please post here.

The only game you listed that I have is AVP2....it runs fine on my XP Pro machine. I did find that the Windows 2000 sound drivers would not work well....and the XP drivers that came with XP were also problematic when playing games. So I had to download the new SB drivers for XP....and so far all my games run fine....with a few old dos games.

I was the one who originally had the problem. Well, I bought a different MB: Intel i845 chipset, and 640 megz PC2100 ... my pc is probably the greatest thing around right now. I love it, game play has moved to another level. Good luck guys....
