Hi,
Despite most of the last 48 hours trying to get the system working I think I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I'm running XP SP2. When I turn the system on it restarts almost immediately after I logon (usually within 2 minutes). It works well in safe mode but no restore points beyond a couple of days ago seem to exist. When the system does crash in normal startup mode I used the Windows Debugging Tool to have a look at the error messages and get the following ...
BugCheck 1000008E, {c0000005, f5d8cd03, f34dda20, 0}
Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe ( nt!PspCreateThread+3e3 )
(ARG3 varies whereas others are consistent between crashes)Additional fumbling around suggests that the problem is not
1. an Active Virus (scans clean)
2. Video Adaptor (new one installed)
3. Insufficient Memory (plenty GBs free)
4. Caching / Shadowing in BIOS (not on)
5. Services / Startup Options (unchecking in safe mode does not correct)
6. Improper kernel32.dll (replacing it gave rise to a new host of errors)Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

This error is normally a hardware issue and is hard to trace down to what actually caused it as it could be a combination of items doing it.
Since it works well in safe mode supports my statement as not all the hardware items are installed during safemeode.
Use safe mode with internet capabilities and update all your hardware drivers to the lates versions. If unable to use the net card during safe mode would mean that the nic card driver may be the fault.

You also could try booting with your windows cd
And choose repair" Please Post back to let us know if we helped "

As soon as Windows starts, within two minutes before it shuts down, right-click My Computer and click Properties. Then click Advanced and then Startup and Recovery and Settings.
There you have several checkboxes. Uncheck Automatically Restart.
Next time when your PC has the problem that makes it restart, your PC will not restart and you will have time to see the EXACT error messages. This is a good way to start the corrective measures.
By the way did you search for the error messages that you got with the bug check method, such as with Google or Microsoft Knowledgebase ?
Hope the above helps.
Regards
