Comment:

My old PC crashes due to a power supply failure, so I purchased a new tower and to get my documents from the old harddrive. I installed it into the new tower which recognises the hard drive but when power up gives two options microsoft windows recovery...or microsoft windows xp home edition.. on choosing home edition it will go to another screen which will give you the choice safr mode safe mode with networking safe mode with command prompt picking one of these options the error message multi(0)disk(0) etc on selecting start windows normally the system reboots.. I dont know how to fix can you help as I need to get information off the hard drive...????

Use a USB external HD enclosure instead of trying to boot the drive. Connect the enclosure to a PC. When you boot it, windows will give your drive a letter. Then you can copy all the files you want.

It sounds like the new machine is trying to boot from the old hard drive.
Is the old hard drive still set to master on the jumper setting?
I am assuming that because you said it came from an old computer its an IDE disk (has a big multi pin connector), if so, look on the label on the old drive. It should show you how to set the jumper to slave. Do this and it should work. If not, the next easiest way would be to buy a caddy for the old hard drive and connect it via USB.
