Specs: Windows XP
How do I fix this problem? Can't find the start up disk. I get the message that cannot start up because \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt.

It's a registry issue. Tap F8 while booting and see if you can get to Command Prompt from the startup menu. If so follow this to run System Restore:
If you make it, select a date before the problem came along. Have you been using a registry cleaner program by any chance?

There is another possibility. Sometimes a registry problem is mis-reported due to ram issues. Try cleaning the RAM edge connectors with a soft pencil eraser then pop the stick(s) in and out a few times to clear oxide off the sockets too.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If going the RAM cleaning option, remember to remove "all" power - which includes the battery if this is a laptop system - before removing RAM.
