After installing a new dimm of 256k pc2700 ddr ram onto my MSI 6547 ultra MB my system began to crash, shutting its self off at random. The error reporting message I got was that a unspecified device driver caused the crash. I have updated all device drivers (that I know about) and am still having the problem.

The crash happens at randon in any given application, and will go days at a time with out a problem, and then crash 5 times in an hour at other times.

In the event viewer I get a system error #102 logged everytime the system crashes.

What do I do to fix this 6 month old machine?

Did you install an ADDITIONAL stick of RAM or a new one altogether? If you just added memory, chances are the two sticks aren't compatible and it's causing problems. Best to buy one stick of 512, or buy 2 of the same sticks from the same manufacturer.

I had 256 installed, and then added another 256. Both have tested and are fine. Could them not being made by the same manufacture (which they are not) cause the device driver error.

MM has a good point about memory module compatibility.

Another check that you can run is:
remove the 'old' module and put the 'new' one in it's place. Run the system as 256Mb with the new module - does it crash? If yes: take the module back as it's faulty.

If no: insert the old module, run the system as 512Mb with the old module in the second slot - does it crash? If yes: review your Power Supply specifications and consider putting in one where the 3V output is >20AMPS [as per the spec for DD-RAM].

If no: great!
