Comment:

I have installed Symantec PcAnywhere 10.0 on my XP Home Computer to connect to my PC at work. I have a 4 network computer all running XP and want to use the Remote Desktop Connection featured with XP but when I try to connect to the other home PC's I receive the message:
You cannot initiate a Remote Desktop connection because the windows logon software on the remote computer has been replaced by the incompatible software C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AWGINA.DLL
Is there an easy way I can get this software back without reinstalling XP

Thanks for the info. It did explain some things, but unfortuately I don't understand what I can do about it. I have tried to go into the registry and edit the AWGINA.DLL to GINA.DLL (probably a stupid thing to try) but then XP would not load at all. I have to go into safe mode to change it back. I think I need to get the MSGINA.DLL but if I do get it,(am I on the right track here) I am not sure on where to put it. Any help would be greatly appriecated.

Try the following steps. It works for me.

To modify the AwGina.dll registry key:

CAUTION: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Please make sure you modify only the keys specified. Please see the document How to back up the Windows registry before proceeding.
Type regedit and press Enter. The Registry Editor starts.
Locate and select the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

On the right side, right-click GinaDLL, and click Modify.
Change the awgina.dll reference to msgina.dll and click OK.
Exit the registry editor.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then click Shut down.
Restart the computer in Normal mode.
