I get this error message on 2 laptops I'm working on, and have no idea how to get rid of it.
This is what I have done...reinstalled the program (Symantec Anti-virus Corp Edition), did a cleanup on the machine. And also got the latest live update. This is the message
"The virus definition file used is more than 30 days old. Updating to a new virus definition file will help catch the most recent viruses"If you have any suggestions on this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

did you use the norton unistaller? Also, I would consider using RegCleaner to clean out the excess junk before re-installing.
Good LuckHopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I didnt use the norton uninstaller but i will try that and see if it works. I will also try using regclean as well. Thanks
Mario

Hopefully that will fix your problem. I've had to do quite a few Norton uninstalls in the past.
If your clients absolutely need Norton you could re-install, but I would suggest something like Avast (great real-time protection and up-dates) or AVG, especially if the laptops are basicly for home use and they are both free and if a firewall is needed Comodo has an excellent free one alsoHopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Norton uninstall and regclean didnt work. Still getting the same error. Any other suggestions.....you said something about doin a re-install...were you talking about a windows xp repair install?
I have to use this software or I would put AVG on it. Its through a company and its on all of there machines so yeah. I know i dont agree with it either but nothin I can really do about it.
Mario

No, I just meant uninstall Norton and then after all the trash was cleaned out to re-install Norton again. I really don't know if a repair install of XP would help. There may some corrupt system files, you may want to try an sfc /scannow and see if the files are intact.
If that doesn't help, you may want to try a repair install, all you would have to replace would be the critical up-dates.Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Are you getting this error while logged in as and Admin? Have you tried reinstalling Live Update from Symantec's site?
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
