I just purchased a Sylvania premium MP4 player and am trying to get my computer to acknowledge my device so I can download music and e-books from my computer to my MP4 player.
Did the player come with a CD disk? If so, you should run it first, before connecting the USB cable. The software will tell you when to connect the player. The above applies if Windows does NOT automatically configure the player.
Is the player supposed to be compatible with WinXP?
Are you using SP3?
No, My player did not come with a CD, and no I am not using an SP3. (which I don't really know what it is), so I am not sure what I am supposed to do. Can you give me any ideas? Thanks for any help!
SP3 is the latest Service Pack for XP. From the start button right click My Computer. If you have a service pack of any type it will be mentioned under "System". You can get SP3 here if it is not already installed:

When I checked under system like you said, It says that there is Service Pack 3 on my Laptop, so do you have any idea what I'm supposed to do then since my computer does have this on it? Thanks for the answers to my questions so far, and all your help trying to get me to understand this, I appreciate it.
I just reveived my MP4 player yesterday and charged it. So, when I saw your message, I was going to see what happened like you asked, and when I tried to turn on my MP4 player nothing happens. It is dead, but it was working yesterday. I guess I need to return this MP4 player and get a different one. Sorry, I didn't answer your question right away. But, I will still need to know what to do when I get another MP4 player. Thanks for all your help.
