Everytime I go on the net I get attacked from an ip address of 81.174.172.253 which sygate's firewall rates as critical. The message I get is "F30002 DCE BIND to potentially vulnerable RPC DCOM interface attempt detected"

Now I no that the blaster worm used the RPC vulnerbility, but I have the patch for that and also the 2nd one. If this is any help Sygates security log says that the application name is svchost.exe.

Please could someone tell me what this is as it happens everday.

Thanks

Open Sygate and go to applications and see if svchost is listed. Make sure that you selected block for it. If it is listed as ask, right click and select block and then OK. It is part of 2000's Wintask library, and is also called Generic Host Process in XP. There is a virus/trojan/worm with a similiar name, but I am sure that what you describe is a normal traffic request that should be blocked anyway. I am pretty sure that you have not permanently blocked it using Sygate. Some people do allow it, as it is "phoning home" to Microsoft. I block everything that does not prevent my system from operating the way I want. I do have Sygate set to hide the notification messages. This allows Sygate to do its job, and I cannot do anything about them anyway. To be absolutely sure and to remove any concern about a possible virus/trojan/worm do the scans at http://www.pcflank.com/ and http://www.grc.com/ both sites have a lot of ggod information to use and programs to further assist you. Another site to check you security is at http://www.pcpitstop.com/ it also has a lot of systen checks to test your system for proper settings and performance. I will mention Adaware/Spybot/Spywareblaster, just in case you do not have them installed for spyware, they are available at http://www.wilders.org/ take care and all the best!
