I have a copy of windows xp professional, and the problem is when I try to install, an error box pops up with the message ' sxs.dll error in file, found in D:\I386\asms\6000\msft\common\controls\controls.man on line 0'.

Either the file is corrupt or it did not copy correctly to the cd. The file size is 1.74kb.
Some genius must know what this means, other people seem to be having the same problem.

Here's the answer to this simple problem. Controls.man is corrupt. All you have to do is get a good working copy of it (make sure it's from the right build). If you can't obtain one, paste the following in notepad and save it as controls.man. Then copy the files from the cd onto the hard drive and replace controls.man with the new one. Make sure to remove any files that setup copied onto ou HD before re-installing.

I just FIXED IT!!!!!....I had this happen time after time again.
All I did is make sure that when I burn the ISO that the CD-R software is set to burn in Disc-at-Once mode. Tell me if you guys can get it to work.

I had this same problem. It's that damn Microsoft protection. I you have Nero it'll fix the problem.
1. Open Nero
2. Click on CD- Copy
3. Click on Read Options
4. Select Data mode 1 (make sure it's not Data mode 2) and burn it. My copy works now...I hope yours will too.

Hello, my name is erik...
I had win98, and tried upgrading to XP Professional...
I put in the cd, and then booted up, it took me through the installatoin process..
It coped a bunch of files to my hard drive, then said it was going to restart.
It restarted and continued to copy more files. Finally it came to a win xp screen, there were 5 dots on the left side of the screen with purposes for all
3 of the 5 things were done and it was just now starting the 4th dot, "installing windows"
the 5th was "final installation"
When it started the 4th (installing windows), it came up with an error that read something like this,
sxs.dll error in control.man found on D:\I386\asms\6000\msft\common\controls\controls.man on line 0'.
When I clickd ok, it restarted and tried to install again coming up with this same error. The pocess it doesn't stop, it just keeps restarting and getting an error, leaving me with no working OS.
and now i just saw that john has a controls.man file. So i downloaded that file and now? i cant find another controls.man file in my computer so how can i replace it? and i just dont get what to do with that file? call me stupid but i dont know what to do to keep that error away could somebody please e-mail me a step-for-step plan. or just put it on this forum. it would really really help me. thanx,, erik
