There has to be a way to swap motherboards!
Ive been trying for the longest time to swap my motherboards, i believe it is because they have two different chip sets. There MUST be a way to delete the motherboard off the OS without uninstalling the OS, Does anyone know how? I want to delete my curent motherboard off the os, turn my computer off and simply swap. There has to be a way! Does anyone know?

Swapping motherboard's is so easy with xp. I do not understand your problem. All you have to do is spend about four minutes and one phone call to Microsoft to get your new license number to register your new installation.

That doesnt work, i have a new licence number everything. I put the new motherboard in and it wont start up, i think because they have two different chipsets.
I think the OS has the old chipset stored and when i swap the motherboards its looking for the old chipset

I have everything. I beleive my computer stored my old motherboards chipset. When i now place my new motherboard in and boot my computer up, my computer then searchs for the old chipset.

Boot from your Windows XP CD and do a repair install. That will install the new chipset drivers.

Swapping motherboards in win9X was a piece of cake, but XP does not tolerate it very well at all. I've always had to do a 'Repair install, at the very least and sometimes a fresh install. I suspect the Activation code. I would be very interested in anyones experiences with swapping motherboards with NT and/or Win2K systems.

I have been able to do it using the "repair"
off the Windows cd...but it never seems to run as well as it did and I wind up reformatting eventually.
The other idea I used to do is boot up into safe mode, and delete everything from Device Manager, then reboot and watch "the fun"!
That actually worked better.

I don't think you said, Are you able to boot but then it just goes to a blue screen?
Here is a tip that I saw and saved it. You have to do it before you change the motherboard. Again this is a tip I saw on this message board I have not tried it, I just saved it in case I ever need it.
tip:
Before you swap out the current motherboard go to device manager and select the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and select your current storage controller. Right click, select update driver and select install from a list or specific location. Click don't search I will choose the driver to install and select the standard dual channel IDE controller. This will prevent the inaccessable boot device blue screen. I have done this multiple times on different platforms with no problems.
Also I found that booting the first time with the new motherboard is best done in the Safe mode where XP will install the drivers it needs and at the same time you can install the new motherboard drivers from its CD.
This saved me doing a repair or a reinstall of XP. My whole system came right up and worked great and very stable.
