WIERD PROBLEM HERE:
I boot up my pc and one of my svchost.exe processes will take up 40-60% of my pc for roughly 10 minutes...the next wave is a process called update.exe that takes up a little less than the svchost.exe for another 10 minutes. then all will stop and goes back to normal. i am aware that update.exe may be windows update, but to take up that much of my pc? the both seem to be related. did a search for update.exe on my pc and the results came up...the update.exe appears to be in numerous locations
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\1312a3f1ac98f15508399b7807031040\update
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\53a4cca2ae67df17adf9f463ee9ecfa5\update
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\91132ea5e8238383ae24f569e04b1de5\update
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\a18b4efe6f986311d67fe53eb3285bff\update
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\S-1-5-18\48f8251ac21e57d0f04ee141e7d13b24\updatethey say its from microsoft(r) etc etc nothing on summary tab though(not sure whether i trust this or not)
i am almost positive this is the update.exe process that is occuring directly after the svchost.exe "attack"
you ppl know your stuff pls see what you can come up w/ for solution
P.S. ran 3 virus scanners and 2 spyware progs and cleaned what i could

I have exactly the same problem you describe after installing the new windows update and SP2 in winxp.
Files keep reappearing in c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download containing an update.exe which is executed every time I boot up the computer.
I deleted all the update.exe, but after 1-2 reboots they appear again.
Other people are reporting this problem.
Did you find a solution?
