I reinstalled XP today. When i finally got my ISP working, the svchost.exe jumped to nearly 99% cpu usage. I have installed no new programs (and Iam trying to finish the windows update - however the problem is slowing the process to a crawl.) It may be something in relation to my internet connection. I use an Efficient Networks Speedstream 5200 modem along with SiS 900 Fast on-board ethernet. I have bell sympatico high speed. Does anyone have any clue to what may be causing this? Anything from Microsoft??

Could also be trojans, virus, adware, spyware generating a fake svchost.exe. Try that other recommendation first, though, then go on the witch hunt for the baddies.
