svchost.exe infected by virus

CPU/Ram: intel pentium 4 / 512

hi! the svchost.exe file in my computer is infected by a virus called PWSTEAL.TROJAN i read from other posts that i can't delete this file. i also tried using norton antivirus, the file cannot be repaired, quarantined or deleted by it. can someone help me out and tell me how i can remove this virus or is there any other solution? thanks a lot!

try doing a system restore back a few days.
may or may not work, if the virus is in the backup files that are used for the restore

thanks for the help but i already installed the security patch but the virus is still there, when i checked the symantec site, it says to delete the file that has been infected by the virus but since it's the svchost.exe, i can't delete it. what should i do?

It looks likely that you can download svchost.exe from http://www.grtg.org/stuff/computers/windows/svchost_exe.php so perhaps you should download it then delete (or rename) your current svchost.exe before installing the new version.

Have a go & post back with results.

is it safe to download a new file? aren't the contents of what i have now on my computer and the one that i am about to download are totally different? just making sure coz my computer might breakdown.
