svchost.exe audio problem

Specs: Windows XP Pro w/ SP2, 2.6ghz 1gig

I'm having a problem with my sound. I have a 5.1 speaker system from Altec Lansing. My motherboard came with a special PCI type card that enabled it for 7.1 sound. (My motherboard is a Chanitech 9CJS Zenith.) So i hooked up my speakers and installed the drivers for the sound card thing. I now have a problem. When I start my computer sound doesn't work. Nothing will play, until I open Task Manager and end one of the svchost.exe processes. (I always know which one it is because it has the highest memory usage.) After ending this sound will play in music programs and games, but not if I try watching some video online. After a little looking around on my system I ended up in services under Administrative Tools. In the services panel I found that Windows Audio wasn't started. If I start it, I get back to the same situation I am at when I start the computer, Thus ending the svchost.exe is also stopping windows audio. Another interesting little tidbit is that when I go into control panel and then Sounds and Audio Devices, it says that there is No Audio Device. I'd appreciate any help that someone could give on this matter. It's really killing me to not be able to go to anymore.

Victor Sherony, SWAG, sounds like some sort of driver issue to me. Check with the mfg. and see if there's another you can use.
