I am having serious problems with my RAM allocation. I ran TaskManager and found that SVCHOST.exe is using as much as 400,000 KB (yes, 400 MB) or my RAM at any one given time.
I ran TaskList and found all the stuff this particular version of SVCHOST.exe is controlling. Here's the list it came up with.
SVCHOST.EXE:
AudioSrv, BITS, Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver, ERSvc, EventSystem, FastUserSwitchingCompatibility, helpsvc, lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Messenger, Netman, Nla, RasAuto, RasMan, Schedule, seclogon, SENS, ShellHWDetection, srservice, TapiSrv, TermService, Themes, TrkWks, uploadmgr, W32Time, winmgmt, WmdmPmSp, wuauserv, WZCSVC
Whatever is taking up 400 MB of my RAM is listed in the chunk above. Any clue as to which one the culprit might be? Any more suggestions?
I disabled SVCHOST.exe from TaskManager and the amount of RAM being used was cut down by about ten-fold (but it starts up every time I reboot). How do I permanently disable whatever it is that's eating up my RAM?
Please let me know of any suggestions!
My system info:
1700+ Athlon XP
512 RAM
Windows XP Pro
40 GB HD
60 GB HD
