I have the same problem a lot of other people do with the svchost app using 100% of their cpu. I've been doing research for a few days but so far nothing has work. I did a full system scan with Norton that turned up nothing. I also checked to see if I was using the Microsoft update site instead of the Windows update site, but I wasn't. I tried turning off the "automatic updates" and "security center" services, but this problem keeps happening. I used process explorer to see which dll was causing the problem, but the ntdll.dll is listed which doesn't help me much. I recently installed drivers for a webcam (Logitech Quickcam) that I thought might have caused the problem, but after I uninstalled those, the problem still persists. I would appreciate any help.

Try using Process Explorer from Sysinternals. Microsoft bought them a few months back.
Follow the link below.

I did use process explorer (see 1st post) but it only listed the ntdll.dll as the culprit and this dll is called by many other applications so that doesn't really help me.

In process explorer, the only 2 items listed under svchost are the wscntfy.exe and wuauclt.exe processes. But I have tried disabling these processes (Security Center and Automatic Updates) and I still get the 100% cpu problem.
If I run "tasklist /svc" the processes listed are:
AudioSrv, Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver,
ERSvc, EventSystem,
FastUserSwitchingCompatibility, helpsvc,
lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman,
Nla, RasMan, Schedule, seclogon, SENS,
SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection, srservice,
TapiSrv, Themes, TrkWks, W32Time, winmgmt,
wscsvc, wuauserv, WZCSVCAlso, I forgot to mention that I ran Spybot but I still have the problem. I would appreciate any suggestions.

If you have the original microsoft installation disc start > run and type
SFC /scannow
click enter and you will be prompted to insert the disc and let it run to repair all your system files may take a while to finish.

Printer & Video drivers (esp. nvidia) have been known to cause this problem. You might try updating your drivers or uninstalling some hardware to explore this possibility.

I ran SFC /scannow, but it kept giving me an error that I have the wrong Windows product. I think it might be because the disc doesn't have SP2 on it.
I also tried updating to the latest version of Nvidia drivers, but I still have the problem.

I found an interesting thread here:
