Every time I do something in internet explorer my process of svchost.exe NETWORK SERVICE goes up to around 97% and hangs there for a bit causing everything to bog down until it drops off. Also there are 2 entries of this process. I am connected directly to my dsl modem. I have searched here, google and wikepedia and have found no explaination for this. Any ideas? Bluejay

Sure, I had 5 of those Svchost CRAP.
I have eliminated one by doing --
* Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)
* Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: Properties
* Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"
* Select: Manual, click Apply/Ok and restart.
(IF you are the only PC user, and not part of a domain.)
That also eliminates one SVCHOST process in Task Manager.

That is taken from ---

Actually I have 6 of those, 2 of which are what I mentioned. I have 2 user accounts (admin and limited) if that was what you were referring to. Bluejay

Well, I just stated what I have done.

Some SVCHOST crap could be Malware as you can see here ---

Yes, I have been to those sites. Also this is a fresh reinstall so it is a clean system. Thanks for the reading material. Bluejay

Download SIW.exe. Select running processes in SIW and click on any one of them. The window in the bottom half of the screen will give you more detail about that process. Helps to identify those Svhost processes.

Didn't know Black Viper was back. I will look into it later. I got pd off at this machine and ended the process in task manager and now I can fly from one page to another. Also going to run SIW to see what it does. Bluejay

OtheHill, That SIW is a facinating little app. Too bad I don't understand everything it shows, but I will try to learn. Bluejay
