SVCHOST keeps crashing (WinXP SP2)! At bootup, it gives several "Data Execution Prevention" error messages. When I type in a web address into IEXPLORER 6.0, I get about three errors indicating a SVCHOST write to a bad memory location, then finally the web page comes up.

whw, did you ???

This is what I found

Process File: svchost or svchost.exe
Process Name: Microsoft Service Host Process

svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

But first, let us know please.....

Yes I spelled it correctly. This box keeps popping up when I have my IEXPLORER browser open:

SVCHOST.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR
The instruction at "0x009a96bc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click OK to terminate this program. Click CANCEL to debug the program.

My IT person solved the problem (SVCHOST crashing). It turned out to be a problem with the HP7300 printer monitor. Once we un-installed that software, the problems went away.

Why do these printers want to install all of this crap on my system - the old way of doing things with just a simple printer driver worked fine! My 2 cents.

Do it yourself and only install the printer driver, that is all you need anyway. Do not install the other software on the disks.
