I've been using the same Windows XP Pro computer here at work for over a year. About six months ago, we had a network installed based on a server running something like Windows Server 2003.
I don't know if it's related, but recently I noticed my clock was out, so double-clicked my clock in the system tray so that I could manually synchronize it with time.windows.comHowever when I double-click the clock, only two tabs display: "Date & Time" and "Time Zone". I'm missing the tab that said something like "Synchronize" or "Time Server" or something like that.
Does anyone know how I can get this tab back, so that I can re-synchronize my clock?

My guess is that your sysadmin has disabled this somehow for security. Suggest you try speaking to them.

You XP machine has probably been configured to synchronise with the Windows 2003 server when it logs on and the server itself is configured to synchronise with any number of NTP Time Servers.
That way all computers on the network show the same time. If the Server is wrong, everyone is wrong, but at least everyone wrong by the same amount.

Thanks guys for your info. Strangely though I'm still allowed to manually adjust the time - I just can't sync it.
Is it possible to sync the time on the Windows server so that my computer clock will match? I worry that this may not be the case if my computer's time can be manually overridden.

The thing to do then is to set the clock to an obviously wrong time. Log off and shut down. Start up and log on again and see if the time has been adjusted.
If it has then you have your answere.
