I have made a successful transition from MS Virtual PC to VirtualBox and I must say I vastly prefer it.
My problem however is how to access Shared Folders. I have successfully created the path by clicking on the folder icon down on the right hand corner but I am blowed if I can find out how to access the folder. Page 59 of the Help file indicates that the shared folder can be mounted from inside a VM in the same way as you would mount an ordinary network share.
I am completely baffled and I have no idea where to start or what to do.
Any help (as applicable to a complete noob in this respect) will be appreciated.
Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

That was just posted a few days ago.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

I am aware of that and as a result of that thread I diced MS Virtual PC and went for VirtualBOX. The thread merely describes how to define a path to the folder which both 1Stepbeyond and I have achieved but neither of us have been able to ACTUALLY access the folder and as Shakespeare says "that is the question."
I note too that he has problems accessing the USB and I have no doubt I'll be going in the same direction.
PS. Late edit
I found this on the page mentioned and it maybe what we are looking for (although I have no idea how to apply it yet.)
"Shared folders have read/write access to the files at the host path by default. To
restrict the guest to have read-only access, create a read-only shared folder. This can
either be achieved using the GUI or by appending the parameter -readonly when
creating the shared folder with VBoxManage.
Then, you can mount the shared folder from inside a VM the same way as you would
mount an ordinary network share:

4 The VirtualBox Guest Additions
• In a Windows guest, starting with VirtualBox 1.5.0, shared folders are
browseable and are therefore visible in Windows Explorer. So, to attach the
host’s shared folder to your Windows guest, open Windows Explorer and look
for it under “My Networking Places” -> “Entire Network” -> “VirtualBox Shared
Folders”. By right-clicking on a shared folder and selecting “Map network drive”
from the menu that pops up, you can assign a drive letter to that shared folder.
Alternatively, on the Windows command line, use the following:
net use x: \\vboxsvr\sharename
While vboxsvr is a fixed name (note that vboxsrv would also work), replace
“x:“ with the drive letter that you want to use for the share, and sharename
with the share name specified with VBoxManage."Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

hi
long explan..
i have d/l newer version 1.6.2-win
and usb now works , :)
install additions software 1st & reboot virtual pc,then shut it down , before starting the vbox OS(vista) plug in the usb data key so the 'REAL' pc identifies it,
under devices in the vbox settings there is a usb option enable this, press the green plus+ button, auto adds the data key info id and serial no's to the vbox
apply and then 'start' the virtualOS (vista)
once up and running the usb is seen in win explorer.
hehe remember to safely remove hardware as normal,to use another usb key you have to repeat the procedure and add each usb key info,
one of my kingston's is slow so may be that was the prob initially, (made for vista lol,)
still cant share a folder tho.(I tested this with vista sp1 iso integrated)
30 day grace, the install confused the hell out of me , real pc has prem edition on it , when installling the virtual pc i now have ultimate what gives?
i also run the real pc in super admin mode
removes some UAC pop ups.not sure of the pro's / cons of super user.
cheers

1stepbeyond... thanks for the update I too have got the USB to work although nothing like the way you have achieved.
Keep an eye on this thread because I may have solved the shared folders problem as well.
A picture tells a thousand words so I'll post here for the benefit of others and (if I can work out how to) I'll PM you with a request for your email address. That way I'll be able to send you a "read me" with pictures.
PS: Late Edit
All the Vista versions are on the one disc... you may find that when you come to validate you'll be knocked back... probably with a request for more funds from M$.

Seems like you have it worked out but why did you send me to a Linux page?
Anyway I have already sent you a PM with a short explanation. I'll start making an illustrated one shortly.
