substituting values in perl

Specs: Windows XP
HEY!!
I'm back again.. I have been stuck at this problem.. I'm given a text document where multiple values need to be substituted in a single file. and the values to be substituted also have to be taken as an input from the user meaning that we dont know what the value we are replacing with it.. how do u write a code for something like that... i'm not being able to replace it in the file. :( please help needed

shabbydoo, what if you were to define each value as a string variable and allow user input to define the variable? Seems to me all you'd need to do is print the variable as needed and it'd vary with user input.
