I have an extremely strange problem that even mircosoft couldn't help me with. My system clock(the time)gets set an hour ahead everytime i restart the computer. This just started happening after daylight savings and is driving me crazy. It goes to the correct time after i go on the internet, but if i don't go on the internet it will advance 1 hour every time i restart windows. I set the time correctly in the bios and it came up correct in windows, but when i restarted windows guess what, advanced. If i right click the time it says a proper privledge is not held by the client, by the way this account is administrator, and the 2nd account is also, and neither can set the time. If i have to reinstall windows to set a god dam clock then bye bye microsoft and hello apple.
Sorry for the language, I am pissed) I am just about to tie this computer to my truck bumper and drag it through the neighborhood.

The problem i have is not the cmos battery. What is happening is very strange. If i use a different hard drive with win98 the clock stays fine, but when i use the xp drive it actually clears the time out of the cmos, but if i use the 98 drive the cmos keeps the time. This just happened during the time rollback. Also the administrator account can't even change the time, it says you do not have the proper privledge level to set the system time. I think this is a bunch of bull s--- and i am buying a mac tomorrow if i don't get this resolved. I am tired of this stupid s--- going wrong like this every f---in day.

Hi,
Do you have the correct time zone entered? IE. I have GMT-6:00, set at Central US. I also have daylight savings checked.
Hope that helps.Tony

OK- This is good reading to improve my vocabulary. :)
Try this-
Go to the Logon of Windows Safe-Mode
A Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP
At the Logon there is an account called
"Administrator". Logon to that, then see if you can change the time.
Report back.

With all of the...
Worms, Virus', Spyware, Adware, Dialers, Browser Hijackers, Trojans, Cookies, Key Loggers, Trackware, and other Malware while browsing the internet...
attacking Windows, I would not give up HOPE.

> it says you do not have the proper privledge level to set the system time
Maybe the security settings got screwed. Try start->run, type "secpol.msc" and click on ok.
In the left pane click on the plus next to "local policies", then click on "user rights assignment". In the right pane locate "change the system time". Double-click and make sure "Administrators" have the right to change the time.

Now might be a good time to look into Linux for you?
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
