Hi guys, I hope you can help me here. I have been messing around with my partitions and stuff lately (see link below for details) and royally screwed up my windows boot, I managed to fix it by using someone elses boot.ini file on another forum, now i can successfully boot but am stuck at the welcome screen.

So that I don't have to write it all up again, please read this thread on the forum where someone helped me get windows to boot:

forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?p=1379193

THIS IS NOT SPAM, I POSTED THE LINK TO THE THREAD SO I DON"T HAVE TO WRITE DETAILS AGAIN!

Basically, When the welcome screen comes up, the computer seems to hang, the mouse courser still works but i can't do anything, all i get is "windows xp professional" and doesn't have my account to click on so i can login, i have left my computer for hours hoping that it will get past the screen but it doesn't.

Please help me! if you need anymore info i can post it.

have you tried the recovery console using fixboot and fixmbr?

If not boot from the windows CD and use the recovery console to perform these tasks. If that doesn't work a repair install might be needed.

If nothing else this might keep the thread going. I see you used someone else's boot.ini, so I thought I would list mine in case there was a problem with yours. My disk has C: on the first partition and something else on the second.

I'm seeing stars, bliss, happiness and rainbows, I have crushed those trying to oppose me, for I have conquered my fears and my doubts, and have proved once and for all that MAN > MACHINE!!!!

It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made a BartPE disc, booted it, loaded the hive, had a wild stab and swapped the C: and F: dosdevices around, restarted, booted windoze. SUCCESS!

I'm so happy right now. I am just hoping this wasn't a wild fluke but right now I can hear angels singing in really high voices.

I'm so glad i didn't give up on this problem, windoze problems shall defeat me NO MORE!

Just for your reference, if anyone else bugs you about this problem, point them to those links further up the page, and show them how to fix it with BartPE, worked FLAWLESSLY!
