When I was using Windows 98, I knew how to get a copy of a Real Media video file that was playing from an Internet URL - you went to Windows\Temp and it was there (with the same name as the video playing in the player), so you just made a copy of it. That way you could get a copy of a streaming video when no other way was possible. But now that I am using XP, I can't find the copy in any temporary files area to copy - is it there somewhere?

There are two issues here really.

First, as you described, if you were able to copy the entire file from your Temp directory, it was not a streaming file. The easiest way to tell if a REAL file is NOT streaming is click the file link and observe the download activity. If you see a progression of the entire file downloading before it plays (same display as when you download other files with Explorer), then the file is merely being copied to the drive. You could actually right click the link and select SAVE TARGET AS and that should save it as well to your desired directory. Or check your Temporary Internet Files.

If the link is STREAMING, you need to save the file to your desktop, open it with notepad, copy the info inside and paste it into a program called STREAMBOX VCR to download it.

Have fun.
