I have XP running on one of my computers and just the other day a dialog box popped up telling me it was going to shut the computer down in 60 seconds. Straight away i thought "Damn MSBlast worm!!" so i downloaded the MSBlast fix from symantec and ran it but it told me that i wasnt infected with MSBlast. I have no idea whats going on because i dont have much experience with XP so if anyone can help me i would be very gratefull.

there is an exploit before the worms came out to do just that. it didn't need any software, it would just shut down your computer unexpectedly. if you have a firewall, block port 135. if you have an anti-virus, update the .dat files and run a full scan. nimda also does the same thing as the blaster.

Thanks,
I'll give it a try, just gotta get some new virus definitions, by the way this doesnt just happen when on the net it usually happens within about 5 mins of booting.

if it happens like you're saying, when it starts to shutdown, goto start, run, and in the box type in cmd and press enter. next type shutdown -a and that will abort the reboot process. then you can find out what the culprit is.

Check in your processes, I saw someone having the msblast.exe process, which is infected by the w32.blaster.worm.
End the process, delete the file and you should be fine then, if it ever happens you have the msblast.exe in your processes.
