Hey all i was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem ive been having with my desktop, the problem i think is linked with the keyboard. ive listed the simptoms below
a few weeks ago the computer began bringing itself out of standby, this happened twice and i thought nothing of it, but things soon got worse. during a net session 2 weeks back the computer shut down, it shut down properly and didnt just shut switch off. i tried re-starting the computer but the same, even without the computer connected to the dsl
conection and the lan. i thought this was a problem with the account i was using so i made a new account and started to use it. the new account worked for 7 days no problem but then the problem came back. i have noticed when the computer shuts down a error messge flashes on the screen, something about an application. the computer goes thorough the proper shutdown procedure as i stated before so im thinking and hoping this is a software problem. things didnt get better, i used anti virus software, roll back, formatting and re-installing windows and things worked for an hour or two but the problem came back. This time it was much worse, the computer would load windows and you
would get to the startup screen and your account log on page but the keyboard wouldnt respond (mouse fine), caps and num lights stayed lit and immedialy the computer shut down. at this point i gave up and retreated to the laptop. curiosity got the better of me and i had another go at trying to fix the probem. i managedto get into the account and thought of changing some of the power options in the display propertys so i changed "when i press the power buttin on my computer", i changed it from shut doen to do nothing and that stopped the computer shutting down, that was half the battle. now the computer can function correctly for hours and days on end but then it starts off agen opening 2 applications on its own, internet explorer and the calculator. this happens mostly when i press the caps lock but sometimes it will happen with no human influence, the keyboard also lockes up when this happens but the mouse would remain fine. Sometimes it will only open 1 or 2 windows of each (i explore and the calculator) but sometimes it will open dozens of windows untill the keyboard is unplugged. Im guessing that the keyboad is at fault as the computer works fine with out it. i was told it may be a faulty m/b. ive looked inside and ive taken the computer apart to make sure everything was seated correctly, dissabled some power management features in the bios, checked the ps2 ports/plugs, formatted the drive 3 times, cpu temp is fine, hdd is fine. There are no exclimation marks/conflicts in device manager, windows is fully patched, ive downloaded sp2 (computer was like that before sp2 was downloaded).
the m/b is a MSI 6714 ver 2.0 if that helps. I hope someone can help me, hope you readers didnt nod off. any help is appreciated,
Many Thanks
John

Hey, i used spy boot to check the system for spyware when it first started, i know that some virus's can be hard to get rid of but can they survive multiple format's?

Did you do an on-line up-date and also immunize your PC? That usually keeps incidents from re-occuring.
